CEBU City Attorney Rey Gealon has resigned from the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) for Infrastructure after eight months of being its chairman.

Gealon submitted his irrevocable resignation to Mayor Edgardo Labella and City Administrator Floro Casas Jr. on Sept. 1, 2021.

Gealon was appointed chairman of the BAC for Infrastructure last Jan. 4 after the death of then committee chairman Rodjun Taneo.

In his resignation letter, Gealon wrote that he has to focus on the petition filed against the City Government on the Carbon Public Market redevelopment project.

Gealon said he and other lawyers in the City Legal Office have to contend with “voluminous” records, and must prepare pleadings and affidavits for documentary evidence.

“I deem it best for the public interest to resign and focus my ability and energy as City Attorney,” wrote Gealon in his resignation letter.

Gealon has emphasized that BAC for Infrastructure was not the one being investigated on the issue of garbage collection in the city. He also extended his gratitude to Labella and Casas for their “continued trust and confidence” in him. (JJL)
