ALL residents in Cebu City who have the City-issued quarantine pass can physically attend the Hubo mass regardless of the ending of their quarantine passes’ code; however, authorities encourage the public to hear the mass online.

The Hubo mass at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, signifies the end of the Fiesta Señor. It is the annual tradition of the changing of vestments of the image of the Sto. Niño.

City Councilor Phillip Zafra, committee on public order chairman, said that as long as the churchgoers can present their quarantine passes, company identification card (ID) or certificate of employment (COE) for authorized person outside of residence (Apor), and are wearing mask and face shield, they can enter the Basilica’s Pilgrim Center.

Zafra said the health protocol will be strictly implemented inside or in the vicinity of the Basilica to ensure safety among the churchgoers.

He still urged the devotees to hear the Hubo mass online or through broadcast, especially those who are from the province.

The Hubo mass will start at 5:30 a.m. It is expected to end around 8 a.m.

Zafra said as early as 3:30 a.m. on Friday, the law enforcers and other authorized personnel will be deployed to monitor and check the churchgoers.

He said the barricades surrounding the Basilica are still in place to regulate the churchgoers’ entry and exit. (JJL)
