THE Cebu City Government has allocated around P37 million for the installation of energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights in the city.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella told reporters Friday, January 10, 2020, the funds for the installation were allocated from this year's annual budget.

As Sinulog activities are underway, the mayor has ordered the Department of Public Services to prioritize the installation of around 3,000 lights, especially along the Sinulog route, which started last January 8.

Labella said they will flood the city with lights to help deter petty crime.

“We will make the city bright, figuratively and literally,” Labella added.

There are also many entities that signify their intention to cooperate in the project, including the Visayan Electric Company.

“We do not worry about the electrical consumption because it (LED streetlights) has been found to be more economical than the existing ones,” Labella said.
