THE Cebu City Council has asked the Department of Public Services (DPS) to organize a cleanup drive to clean the public places of the campaign materials.

In an approved resolution sponsored by Councilor Sisinio Andales, the Council also urged the candidates in the last elections to clean public places like streets of their campaign materials.

“After a generally peaceful elections last May 13, 2019, we need to clean up our places from these election materials and candidates should be responsible enough to help the Cebu City Government in clearing up our streets and public places, including private properties from election materials,” read a portion of the resolution.

During the campaign period, volunteers of each candidate posted several of the campaign posters in public places in the city despite the call of Commission on Elections to put the campaign materials in designated areas.

There were some candidates, though, who already voluntarily removed their campaign materials immediately after the elections.

Meanwhile, with the elections over, acting Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Jerome Brillantes has left for Manila to handcarry the SD cards and documents containing the certificate of canvass, election returns and election results.

“Our central office needs to have hard copies of these documents. That’s why I have to personally deliver these to them,” Brillantes said in a phone interview on Wednesday, May 22.

Brillantes said he will return to Manila again to deliver the Statement of Contributions and Expenditures of both winning and losing candidates once the deadline of submission lapses on June 12.

Brillantes is set to return to Siquijor where he served as provincial election supervisor at the end of the election period. This would mean that Acting Siquijor Comelec head Lionel Marco Castillano will also return to the Cebu Provincial election office. (RTF, RVC)
