IN its effort to reduce plastic waste, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro) in the northern Cebu town of Daanbantayan is giving a kilogram of rice to the residents in exchange for a kilogram of plastics through its “Ecobricks Mo, Bigas Ko” program.

Ecobricks are plastic bottles filled with plastic.

The Menro will accept ecobricks in 200 ml swakto bottles up to 2 liter bottles.

The municipality urged the residents to coordinate with their respective barangays regarding the distribution schedule for rice in their neighborhood. (ANV, TPT)
