CEBU City’s Department of Public Services (DPS) collected less garbage during this year’s Sinulog grand parade.

DPS Assistant Department Head John Paul Gelasque said that for Sunday, Jan. 20 alone, they were able to collect 110 tons of garbage.

Last year, the agency collected 215 tons of garbage.

“Most of the wastes were collected along Sto. Niño church area, Plaza Independencia and Fuente Osmeña,” Gelasque said.

A total of 549 street cleaners were tasked to clean the city immediately after the grand parade.

Aside from them, the barangays also sent their barangay environment officers to help clean the city streets, Gelasque said.

He said their eco-stations or the area where trash bins were also available along the parade route also helped.

“The public became conscious where to dispose their garbage properly,” he said. (RVC)
