THE entire Visayas will experience strong winds and high waves of up to three meters until Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, due to the ongoing southwest monsoon, which has been strengthened by tropical depression Jenny.

The weather bureau Pagasa stated that tropical depression Jenny is expected to make landfall in Aurora, Isabela Province on Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, 2019, or Tuesday midnight.

With tropical depression Jenny’s entry, some passenger vessels canceled their trips at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27.

These included vessels that leave Hilton and Angasil ports in Lapu-Lapu City for Barangay Sta. Rosa in Olango Island and vice versa and vessels from Mactan Wharf to Camotes Island. Trips from Cordova town to Getafe, Bohol were also canceled. Most of the affected vessels were passenger motorbancas.

Although Pagasa did not raise a gale warning, operators of passenger vessels were advised to travel with caution, especially if they were operating motorbancas.

Jenny intensified into a tropical depression from being a low pressure area on Monday afternoon, Aug. 26, and is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Aug. 29.

Al Quiblat, Pagasa Visayas acting chief, said that light to moderate rains will be felt in Cebu starting on Wednesday.

Winds of up to 30 to 50 kilometers and waves of up to 3.25 meters will be felt in the Visayas in tropical depression Jenny’s wake. The weather is expected to improve by Wednesday night, Quiblat added.

Even though three typhoons have entered the country since the start of August, Quiblat said the actual rainfall rate felt in the Visayas is only 76 millimeters (mm) compared to the monthly average of 151.88 mm. (from HBL of Superbalita/JKV)
