‘Killer’ of vendor shot dead by San Fernando police

A MAN suspected to be the killer of a vendor was shot dead by the police after resisting arrest and prompting a hot pursuit operation on Sunday afternoon, June 27, 2021, in Purok II USI, Upper San Isidro, Barangay San Isidro in San Fernando town, Cebu.

Police Major Janus Giangan, head of the San Fernando Police Station, identified the suspect as Rodel Romano Mahinay, 34, unemployed, with a live-in partner.

According to Giangan, Mahinay was the suspect in the killing of Wendel Villarubin, 26, a vendor from Barangay Pitalo in San Fernando town, Cebu, on Saturday, June 26, 2021.

Giangan said that in their investigation, witnesses from Purok II USI where Villarubin was killed pointed at Mahinay as the shooter.

Giangan said that the San Fernando police searched for Mahinay who was found loafing in Purok II USI, but when he noticed the arrival of the police, he shot at them first.

The police shot back, hitting different parts of Mahinay’s body, which resulted in his death.
