THE Land Transportation Office is holding a series of seminars aimed at those aged 17 to 29 since they face the highest risk of meeting road accidents.

The LTO 7 kickstarted its program with the Road Safety Advocacy Forum last May 15 at its office along N. Bacalso Ave. in Cebu City. It was part of a series of programs held nationwide simultaneously by the Department of Transportation.

LTO 7 Regional Director Victor Caindec said it was just the start of a series of activities aimed at decreasing the number of road accidents. Among those who attended the program were car dealers and Sangguniang Kabataan officials from Cebu City and Cebu Province.

“This shows that we are working closely with various stakeholders to ensure road safety and to raise the awareness of the people regarding the proper use of our roads,” said Caindec.

Others invited during the seminar were members of the Highway Patrol Group, Cebu Road Heroes, Mega Cebu and the Unified Motorcycle Club.

They were the ones who led the seminar on road safety and the proper use of motor vehicles.

Caindec added the LTO is not only about the enforcement of traffic rules but also about drivers’ education.

Macari Getaruelas, the acting chief of the operations division of the LTO, said most of those apprehended were drivers who did not wear a helmet, did not have a license or failed to show registration papers.

Caindec is asking the motorists to follow the rules on the road to avoid accidents. (EOB with HBL of SuperBalita Cebu)
