THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7 displayed symbols of death—hearse, casket, flower bouquet and damaged motorcycles—to remind motorists that reckless driving would either lead them to hospitals or cemeteries.

The government agency observed the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDRRTV) on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019.

LTO 7 Director Victor Caindec led his personnel in the activity, which reminded the motorists to always drive with care.

Aside from offering a mass for road crash fatalities; they also prayed for the injured persons who are recuperating in different hospitals in the region.

In Central Visayas, Caindec said road traffic incidents involving motorcycles are a major cause of death. Around four vehicular accidents happen every day, he said.

The Department of Transportation had instructed its attached agencies, including the LTO, to take part in the WDRRTV, which was started by the British road crash victim charity, RoadPeace, in 1993 and was later adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005.

Caindec said other LTO regional branches placed tarps printed with messages about safe driving in strategic places, while others conducted information drive caravans.

He said reckless driving, overspeeding, driving while under the influence of alcohol and disobeying traffic rules often lead to incidents on the road. (PAC / KAL)
