M5.1 quake hits Leyte

A MAGNITUDE 5.1 earthquake struck Leyte at 8:28 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2023.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that the quake’s epicenter was located at three kilometers southeast of Leyte town in Leyte province.

It had a depth of one kilometer.

The tremor was felt at intensity 3 in Alangalang, Carigara, Babatngon, Barugo, Tacloban City, and Ormoc City in Leyte.

Instrumental intensities were also reported, as follows:

* Instrumental Intensity 4 - Carigara, Leyte

* Instrumental Intensity 3 - Alangalang, Ormoc City, Leyte

* Instrumental Intensity 2 - Calubian, Albuera, Leyte

* Instrumental Intensity 1 - Borongan City, Eastern Samar; Bogo City, Cebu

Phivolcs said aftershocks are expected. (LMY)
