THE Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO)’s City Intelligence Unit arrested a 31-year-old businessman for allegedly selling overpriced thermal guns and thermometers.

The suspect is identified as John Michael Abuton, residing in one of the subdivisions in Brgy. Agus, Lapu-Lapu City. Items confiscated from the suspect during the police sting include 12 non-contact thermal guns, 10 digital fiber thermometers and P5,000 worth of buy-bust money from the police.

The confiscated overpriced products were estimated to be worth P60,000.

According to city intelligence branch chief P/Col. Mark Gifter Sucalit, they received a complaint regarding Abuton selling overpriced thermometers online. The suspect was immediately busted after the entrapment operation.

Sucalit said: “The suspect will be facing several cases including violations against the Price Act, Food and Drug Authority (FDA) Act and Consumer Act. Prior to the operation, we coordinated with FDA and with the informant."

Abuton, in his defense, said he was not selling overpriced thermometers. He bought the items for P6,500 plus the tax in Mandaue City and sold them for a lower price of P4,900 and P4,600. He said it was his way of helping people who need thermal guns but now he's being charged for overpricing instead. (GCM / MMC)
