Mayor Paz on Sinulog parties: No

THE Lapu-Lapu City Government will not allow party organizers to hold any event in the city during the Sinulog week.

Mayor Paz Radaza explained that there was no assurance that peace and order would be maintained during the parties.

The city’s police force, she said, would be depleted next week as some of its personnel would augment security during the Sinulog Grand Parade in Cebu City on Jan. 20, Sunday.

Radaza said the public would be safer if she would just prohibit parties. The Mandaue City Government earlier announced a ban on street parties.

An event organizer had asked Radaza to grant a permit for a concert at the football field of the Mactan Economic Zone (MEZ) in Barangay Ibo on Jan. 19, Saturday.

But Radaza said she had not yet approved the application because even if the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) had reportedly allowed the holding of the concert, the concert’s organizer must still present a security plan to the city government before she would grant a permit.

Peza administers activities in special economic zones. But outside MEZ, Radaza said, no parties would be allowed. (From GCM of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
