No work, classes today in Lapu

THERE will be no work in government offices in Lapu-Lapu City today, Nov. 20, 2019, as the city celebrates the feast of the Virgin of the Rule.

Classes in all levels in public schools are also suspended today, Nov. 20, and Thursday, Nov. 21.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan decided to suspend classes in public schools anticipating the difficulty the students may have in commuting to school and going home.

Chan expects heavy traffic throughout the city on Wednesday, the eve of the fiesta celebration, and Thursday, the feast day itself.

The mayor will leave it to the private schools to decide whether or not classes will be suspended.

“For the reason that heavy traffic will be inconvenient for our students and we don’t want them to suffer, we will suspend classes on the condition that they will hold make-up classes on two Saturdays after the fiesta,” said Chan.

Government offices in the city will also be closed today to give employees a chance to celebrate the feast of the city’s patroness.

Chan assured, though, that there would be a skeletal force in some City Hall offices, especially those in charge of emergency response, peace and order, traffic management, solid waste management, hospital services and clean and green programs. (GCM, LRC)
