Norwegian 72, dies on Moalboal beach

A 72-YEAR-OLD Norwegian national died after swimming in the waters off Barangay Basdiot in the southwestern town of Moalboal, Cebu on Saturday morning, Aug. 20, 2022.

The victim was identified as Dag Oystein Bakstad, a resident of Barangay Bangkal Lapu-Lapu City.

He was believed to have suffered a heart attack.

SSgt. Romel Quinain, investigating officer of Moalboal Police Station, told SunStar Cebu the victim was struggling to breathe near the shore when he was found by his live-in-partner’s family and friends around 11 a.m.

They tried to revive him before rushing him to the Badian District Hospital where the attending physician pronounced him dead.

Police are still waiting for the doctor to release a statement to determine Bakstad’s cause of death.

Bakstad’s live-in-partner, Jetka Hadon, said the victim had suffered a mild stroke.

Police concluded that no foul play was involved.
