THREE months after closing due to the threat of the coronavirus disease, the Pasil Fish Market is set to reopen on Aug. 15, 2020.

Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella ordered the temporary closure of the market last May 2 after cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) spiked in Barangays Pasil and Suba.

Market Administrator Irvin Cabales said around 200 ambulant vendors and retailers will be selling again.

Cabales said measures implemented at the Carbon Public Market will also be implemented at the Pasil Fish Market, such as the alphabetical scheduling scheme and the one-entrance, one-exit policy.

Cabales said ambulant vendors will occupy Phase 1, while retailers will occupy Phase 2 or the market’s renovated building. Wholesalers will continue to sell at the bagsakan, a temporary public marketplace located at the South Road Properties (SRP), since the area intended for them is still not available.

He said construction is ongoing in the area where wholesalers will display their products.

When Covid-19 cases in the city started to increase, Pasil vendors were transferred to the SRP.

Cabales said strict health protocol will also be implemented at the Pasil Fish Market, such as social distancing and the wearing of masks. There will also be regular disinfection.

Cabales said they will hold a blessing in the area on Aug. 14.

Meanwhile, Labella reminded mall owners to continue implementing strict health measures even though the city’s quarantine status has been downgraded.

In his meeting with mall owners, Labella told them not to allow shoppers without quarantine passes to enter. (JJL)
