Police seize over P8 million worth of 'shabu' in 2 days

THE police confiscated almost two kilos of alleged shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth more than P8 million in just two days of anti-illegal drug operations that resulted in the arrest of six drug personalities.

On Thursday, January 20, 2022, two drug suspects Jamil Opeña Espinosa, 35, and Ariel Ybañez, 24, both from Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City, were arrested by the police during a drug bust conducted by the operatives from the Police Drug Enforcement Group Central Visayas headed by its deputy officer, Major Alejandro Batobalonos.on Waling-waling Street, Phase 4, St. Jude Acre, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.

The two yielded 115 grams of alleged shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P782,000 based on street drug price value and a caliber .38 revolver and .45 pistol and six live bullets.

Batobalonos revealed that the drug suspects were errand runners for the late Dee Jay Bas, commonly known as Doy, who was killed last month along with two others in

Barangay Inayawan.

Bas was tagged as the leader of a gun-for-hire group and was also involved in the illegal drug trade.

Espinosa and Ybañez, however, denied being part of Bas' group.

Espinosa said he was not involved in any shooting incidents in Inayawan.

Batobalonos said they would submit the weapons confiscated from Espinosa and Ybañez for cross-matching to see if it matches with the bullets taken from the previous

shooting incidents in the barangay.

On Wednesday, at 10 p.m., January 19, 2022, more than one kilo of suspected shabu with a street price value of P7.1 million were also seized from the possession of Khent

"Mikmik" Basarte, 23, and Rellou Suquib Donaire, 33, both residents of sitio Sugarland, Barangay Bacayan.

The buy-bust operation was conducted by the elements of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) headed by Major Jonathan Taneo.,

Two other drug suspects, Raymond Mier Labay, 41, of sitio Sandayong, Guadalupe, Cebu City and John Clifford Flores, 25, of sitio Puntod, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu

City, were also arrested in a buy-bust operation headed by Major Joseph Aquino of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU)-7 in Sitio Babao, Barangay
