REELECTIONIST San Fernando Mayor Lakambini Reluya has been receiving death threats from supporters of the town’s opposition bloc.

Her son, vice mayoral candidate Ricci Regens Reluya, confirmed to SunStar Cebu that his mother had received text messages and messages posted on social media from unidentified persons telling her she would “only last a week” and that she would not be able to participate in next month’s elections.

Earlier this week, Mayor Reluya received complaints from some of her supporters that they were also being threatened by supporters of her rival, businessman and mayoral candidate Ruben Feliciano, during his sorties.

The younger Reluya said they expected the police to act on the matter after they reported it.

He said his mother plans to file action against Feliciano and his supporters for maligning her reputation and for issuing death threats against her during his sorties.

Feliciano, in a separate interview, denied the allegations.

“Bakakon kaayo na siya. Dili man mi mubuhat ana. Dili man magbahad. Sila man gani, ila man ganing gikuha akong campaign materials. Mas grabe sila (He’s a liar. We don’t do that. We don’t threaten. They’re the ones who took my campaign materials. They’re worse),” Feliciano said.

The younger Reluya admitted that some of their supporters no longer trusted the police, but he urged them to persevere.

“I still trust Major (Lymel) Pascuin and his men to do their jobs. I also understand their situation and they have been doing what they can to ensure that our town is peaceful,” Ricci told SunStar Cebu on Saturday, April 27.

The town police chief had urged aggrieved Reluya supporters to approach his office if they received any threats so police could take appropriate action.
