THE celebration of the Sinulog Festival in 2023 will push through at the South Road Properties (SRP) as Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has envisioned a “tent city” in the area.

During his first 100 days report on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022, Rama said he will be bringing different hotel brands to the SRP and establishing a temporary tent city in the area for the festivities.

According to the mayor, the Sinulog Foundation Inc. has been conducting a series of meetings to iron out preparations for the country’s grandest festival, which is held every third Sunday of January every year.

“Kana karong atoang (Our) one Cebu Island Sinulog 2023... world tent city. Pagandam mo daan sa inyong tent kay naay contest (Prepare your tents because there will be a contest),” he said.

He said the City Government will coordinate with the Hotel, Resort, and Restaurant Association of Cebu Inc. for the planned activities.

Charles Kenneth Co, president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said they support the changes being set by Rama.

He said that a lot of planning and preparation should be done to make Sinulog 2023 successful.

“SRP is Cebu’s biggest investment and I understand the mayor wants to spur development in SRP and bringing Sinulog there is one of the ways to accomplish that,” Co said. (IRT)
