A GRADE 11 student was arrested after the girl whom he allegedly raped refused his offer to marry her around 3:30 p.m. Friday, November 11, in Barangay Cambuhawe, Balamban town in midwest Cebu.

Tears fell from the eyes of the 21-year-old suspect called "Kid," when the police handcuffed him.

Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Hife of Balamban Police Station said in an interview with SunStar Cebu that the 20-year-old victim hails from Toledo City.

Hife said the incident occurred on May 16, 2021 during the fiesta celebration of Barangay Arpili in Balamban.

The victim and the suspect, together with their respective friends, met at the house of their common friend in Arpili where they attended a fiesta celebration.

They were having a drinking session until 3 a.m. when the victim passed out from drinking too much.

One of the friends of the victim told her that she was molested by the suspect while she was sleeping.

As a result, the victim filed a case against the suspect.

A warrant of arrest was then issued by acting presiding Judge Judilyn Hugo Tapia-Menchavez of Toledo City Regional Trial Court Branch 59 against Kid with no bail recommended for his temporary liberty.

The warrant of arrest is dated October 24, 2022.

The suspect is facing charges for violation of Anti-Rape Law of 1997 (Republic Act 8353).

Hife said the suspect admitted that he offered to marry the victim in exchange for the withdrawal of the case but the latter refused.

The victim already gave birth to a child.

She said she would pursue the case even though the suspect is the father of her child.

Hife said Kid has been placed as the number 5 most wanted person in the provincial level due to the incident. (GPL, TPT)
