A retired police officer was attacked in Sitio Dapdap, Barangay Bonbon, Aloguinsan town on Saturday morning, May 14, 2022.

Staff Sergeant Lyle Joseph Ugdamen, investigating officer of Aloguinsan Police Station, identified the victim as Ernesto Manguilimotan Yongco, 70, a retired police major and a resident of Sitio Napo, Barangay Bonbon.

Ugdamen told SunStar Cebu that the victim was walking along the road when he was hit with a stone in the head by the suspect identified as Leo Gaviola Villarin, a fisherman and his neighbor.

Ugdamen said the victim was able to fight back and hit Villarin with his plastic cane in the different parts of his body.

Witnesses hurriedly came forward to pacify them. Both Yongco and Villarin suffered wounds and were brought to the Pinamungajan District Hospital for treatment.

Ugdamen said that the two had long been having a personal grudge when the victim filed a case of robbery against the suspect in 2017.

The suspect was detained at the Aloguinsan Police Station after being discharged from the hospital.

Ugdamen said the victim had to undergo CT scan as recommended by his physician before he would pursue the attempted homicide case against the suspect. (GDC, TPT)
