Village chief to seek DILG view on suspension

MAMBALING Barangay Captain Gines Abellana will seek the opinion of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) on the suspension order handed to him by the three-member committee of the Cebu City Council.

The committee suspended him for two years for allegedly not releasing the honoraria of four councilors from July to December in 2018. Anne Marie Palomo, Mambaling’s first councilor, took oath as the replacement barangay captain before Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Abellana, however, refused to step down, saying it’s only the DILG that can remove him from office.

Palomo wanted the City DILG, headed by Joy Calvo, to make Abellana understand his suspension, since the latter kept saying he’d only take a suspension from the DILG. Palomo also went Tuesday, Jan. 15, also went to the DILG to seek its opinion.

On the same day, Palomo presided over a session with three of her allied councilors, while Abellana also held his own.

Abellana said that the DILG central office told him to send the documents pertaining his suspension. (From PAC of SuperBalita Cebu)
