Water Supply in 12 schools bacteria-free

Sunnexdesk

WATER samples taken from the faucets of 12 schools in Cebu City are free from fecal coliforms.

These schools are Banilad Elementary School, Barrio Luz National High School, Lahug Elementary School, Tejero Elementary School, Abellana National High School, Cebu City Central School, Labangon Elementary School, Basak Community School, Pardo Elementary School, Guadalupe Elementary School, Talamban Elementary and Punta Princesa Elementary School.

The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) conducted the water quality test in 15 schools on May 28, 2019 as its contribution to the Brigada Eskwela, the Department of Education-led weeklong cleaning of schools before the opening of classes.

MCWD spokesperson Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara said they got the results of the 12 schools’ water samples last Friday, June 21.

She said MCWD would possibly get next week the results of the water samples taken from Tisa 2 Elementary School, Don Vicente Rama Memorial Elementary School and Talamban National High School.

Fecal coliforms are the “group of the total coliforms that are considered to be present specifically in the gut and feces of warm-blooded animals. Because the origins of fecal coliforms are more specific than the origins of the more general total coliform group of bacteria, fecal coliforms are considered a more accurate indication of animal or human waste than the total coliforms,” according to the New York Government’s website.
