FORMER Pinamungajan mayor and third district congressional candidate Geraldine Yapha must undergo a threat assessment to determine if the death threat she received was authentic.

Acting Cebu Provincial Supervisor Jerome Brillantes said this was required by the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) to determine if Yapha should be provided with a security detail.

If Yapha completed the requirement, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) would endorse it to the RJSCC, he said.

“If police findings were valid, we would endorse these to the RJSCC. It’s up to RJSCC to assess and to give her security detail,” he said.

Yapha approached the Cebu Provincial Police Office on Wednesday, Feb. 20, after she received a note containing two bullets.

The note stated that she must withdraw her candidacy or she would die.

Yapha said she may have an idea on who was behind the death threat, but she refused to say, citing lack of evidence.

Brillantes said that even with the recent development, the alert level of the third district would not be affected. Only the town of Tuburan has a red alert level due to the presence of armed groups and the intense rivalry of opposing candidates, according to him. (From AZLG of SuperBalita Cebu, JKV)
