A WIDOW in Sitio Ilang-Ilang, Barangay Lagtang, Talisay City had an early Christmas when operatives of the Talisay City Police Station arrived at her house on Friday morning, Nov. 25, 2022, bearing gifts.

Guillerma Labrador, 64, could hardly contain her surprise and joy when she accepted groceries and a new sewing machine from Lt. Col. Randy Caballes, the station’s chief.

Labrador, who lost her husband 12 years ago, has been staying in a makeshift home since her house was severely damaged by super typhoon Odette last December.

She doesn’t have the money to make repairs.

She works as a cashier for a Small Town Lottery outlet to support her son who suffers from a debilitating illness.

Caballes said they found out about Labrador after one of her neighbors reported her plight to them.

He thanked the people who support the police program to assist those in need, including Toledo City Councilor Raffy Arrojo and Cyril Velasco, president of the City of Talisay-Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others.

In 2020, the Philippine National Police launched the “Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko!” Adopt-a-Family Program that encouraged police officers to support poor families in their localities. (GPL / PJB)
