2018 Roger Abella Memorial Scrabble set on Nov. 10

CEBU’S word wizards are set to vie for top honors in the 2018 Roger Abella Memorial Open Scrabble Tournament slated on Nov. 10 at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The tournament, organized by the Cebu Scrabble Association dedicated to the memory of the late National Chess Master and Cebu Sports Hall of Famer Roger T. Abella, is open to all players.

The players will be divided into three classes: professional, high school and elementary. The winners in each division will win cash prizes.

The champion in the professional category will win P7,000 cash prize, the second placer will pocket P5,000, while the third, fourth and fifth placers will receive P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

For the high school and elementary divisions, the champions will walk away P4,000 richer; second placers will get P3,000; third placers, P2,000; fourth, P1,000; fifth, P800; and six and seventh placers, P500 each.

The tournament sponsored by Cebu City Sports Commission will use the six rounds of Modified King of the Hill for high school and elementary players, while eight rounds for the professional. (RSC)
