CEBUANA cagers lived up to their billing as they made it to the semifinal round of the inaugural girls’ basketball tournament of the Batang Pinoy National Championships at the Easter College Gym, Baguio City yesterday.

Cebu Province displayed their prowess with a masterful 57-42 win over Zamboanga City to stay unbeaten after four games and clinch a spot in the semis round.

Cebu Province was on a tear on majority of its game in the elimination round as all but one was won in blowout fashion. The team spit fire against Tayabas, 79-54, and also fashioned out a dominating 65-43 triumph over Sto. Tomas.

The closest game in the elimination for Cebu Province was against their Queen City of the South counterpart, the Cebu City Niños. The Cebu Province beat the Batang Pinoy Visayas Region champion Cebu City by only six points, 49-43.

Both Cebu Province and Cebu City though will move on to the semis together with Pangasinan and Zamboanga. As of press time, Cebu City and Cebu Province have one game left each.

Cebu Province head coach Ronnie Mata told SunStar Cebu that the female basketball scene in the country is gaining popularity and the inclusion of the basketball tournament is a great exposure for the aspiring players.

In the previous Batang Pinoy National Championships, the girls basketball only had a 3 on 3 format. RSC
