AMID the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic and the enhanced community quarantine, Cebu’s veteran weekend warriors are helping out in the community in their own little way.

Runner Annie Penaroya, volunteer runner and Mogu-Mogu’s representative Maria Joy Laguna distributed 400 boxes of Mogu-Mogu products to the frontliners in Cordova, Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City, Mandaue City.

Penaroya was supposed to celebrate her birthday together with the public school students in Tisa Elementary School on March 30, 2020, but the feeding program was canceled because of the Covid-19 scare.

“Since there are no running events which are usually sponsored by Mogu-Mogu, we thought of giving the allocation for running events to our frontliners and also to some runners,” she told SunStar Cebu.

“We have allocated to give it to the people assigned in the checkpoint areas in different part of Cebu,” she said. “I was sad when I learned that my feeding program for kids got canceled, but when I received a call from a good friend from Mogu-Mogu about this activity I felt that God really has another plan.”

Penaroya also contacted fellow runners in Cebu and Leyte to help with the distribution. The team finished distributing the product in two days, which ended on Friday, March 27, hours before the start of Cebu City’s enhanced community quarantine lockdown.

On the other hand, ultra runner and environmentalist Tony Galon, who’s an advocate of the five-piece daily habit movement, urges his fellow runners and Cebuanos to stay at home to help combat this pandemic.

“I still continue with my five-piece daily habit. I’m bringing alcohol to prevent contamination,” he said. “As we stay at home, the earth is also healing.” (RSC)
