THE Central Visayas Football Association (CVFA) finally found its scoring touch, routing the visiting Eastern Visayas Regional Football Association, 7-0, in the Boys 15 National Championships at the Cebu City Sports Center on July 13, 2019.

After losing to Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) and drawing Panay FA (PFA) in its first two games, CVFA didn’t take any chances against the debuting EVRFA, scoring an early goal before cruising to a 3-0 half-time lead.

The best chance EVRFA had in the first half to score didn’t even come from them. CVFA keeper Jake Gomez misjudged a backpass but thankfully, his mishit had the ball spinning just wide of the goal.

In the second half, Mark Lester Zafra took over for CVFA, completing a hat trick in the first 20 minutes to put the outcome beyond doubt.

Zafra collected his own rebound and banged in to the bottom corner for the fourth goal and played a beautiful give and go with Gianzo Custado for his second before striking again to complete his hat trick.

Then things began to turn worse for the visitors. A barely legible substution card written by the assistant coach led to midfielder Jose Eduardo Goduco getting subbed out instead of defender David Fornea. Goduco wore jersey No. 29, while Fornea had No. 39 and the head coach was surprised to see his midfielder out when he wanted his defender changed.

With the win, CVFA now has four points in two games and it can shoot for another win when it travels to Negros Oriental Football Association on July 27. (ML)
