GAREN Diagan scored a huge upset after destroying two-time world title challenger Simphiwe Khonco last Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at the Sun Bet Arena in South Africa.

The 26-year-old Diagan came in as a huge underdog against Khonco, who is a former International Boxing Organization (IBO) minimumweight champion. Khonco is one of the stars from South Africa. He failed in both of his bids for a world title, against Hekkie Budler in 2015 and against Wangeng Menayothin in 2019.

Diagan shocked the hometown fans after stopping Khonco in the seventh round.

Diagan dropped the 38-year-old Khonco in the seventh but it was ruled a slip by the referee. Khonco looked wobbled and backed up to the corner. Diagan immediately pounced on Khonco and unleashed some vicious combinations that forced the referee to stop the fight.

Diagan came into the fight with a two-fight slump after losing to April Jay Abne and Danai Ngiabphukhiaw. He improved to 9-3 with five knockouts after the win.

Khonco dropped to 20-7 with seven knockouts.
