Poligrates now 'frontrunner' for D-League MVP

Jonas N. Panerio

THE road to redemption for Cebuano guard Eloy Poligrates keeps on getting better as he is now the frontrunner for the coveted Most Valuable Player award in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup.

After getting cast away by his hometown Cebu Sharks in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, the 31-year old Cebuano favorite has since made his mark, leading the Marinerong Pilipino Skippers to the very first finals appearance.

Along the way, the Poro, Camotes-native has turned heads with his fine play in the developmental ranks where he averaged 21 points to go with 3.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.6 steals to help the Skippers go on its current eight-game winning streak.

The Southwestern University-Phinma product has also etched his name into the record books for the most points scored in a ballgame as he tallied 67 points in their 141-97 victory over iWalk last August 26.

Poligrates, however, must fend off the likes of BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare’s Joshua Fontanilla and Centro Escolar University’s Rich Guinitaran.

The Conference MVP award will be given during the awarding ceremonies at the conclusion of the Finals between the Skippers and the Saints.

Game One kicks off on Thursday, October 3, at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig. (SunStar Cebu)
