Gyle Montaño named MVP of Pilipinas Super League Under-21

CONSOLACION star Gyle Patrick Montaño was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2022 Pilipinas Super League U21 Aspirants Division Invitational Cup for his stellar performances that has been key in the Sarok Weavers’ romp to the finals.

The 21-year old, who previously player for Southwestern University-Phinma before moving on to become a stud at the Lyceum University of the Philippines in the NCAA juniors tournament, posted averages of 15.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, which helped lead Consolacion to finish at the top of the standings after the elimination round.

Montaño said this MVP award is his first, and this will help spur him to help his team attain their goal of clinching the championship.

“I feel blessed to have gotten this award, but we haven’t reached our goal yet, which is to win the championship,” said Montaño.

Montaño got off to a slow start but has hit his stride of late, including a 21-point outburst in Consolacion’s 78-73 win over Cagayan de Oro in the semifinals on Monday afternoon.

“We were all still adjusting to the venue and the new environment. I think we’ve gotten the flow of our game now, and we’re grateful to the coaches for constantly giving us confidence,” shared Montaño.

Montaño also earned a spot on the Mythical Five team where he was joined by his teammate, Rojan Montemayor, who normed 10.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.0 steal per game. Also making it were Kent Salarda (13.1 ppg, 10 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1 spg, 3.1 bpg) of Bukidnon, and Jerry Rivera (14.6 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 4.7 apg, 4.1 spg) and Randolf Laquio (16 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.5 apg, 3.4 spg) of Roxas.
