Top-ranked Filipino golfer Juvic Pagunsan formally earned a spot in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics after the release of the Olympic Golf Rankings.

Pagunsan finished at no. 49 to make him the 13th Filipino to qualify for the Olympiad. Only the top 60 golfers in the world are given the opportunity to compete in the golf event of the quadrennial sporting meet.

Pagunsan, who recently won the Mizuno Open, will be joining the likes of Olympic weightlifting silver medal winner Hidilyn Diaz and Cebuanas Elreen Ando and Margielyn Didal just to name a few. The 43-year old Pagunsan will be up against a tough field in the Olympics that includes US Open champion Jon Rahm and Masters Tournament winner Hideki Matsuyama.

On the women’s side, Filipina golfers Yuka Saso and Bianca Pagdanganan are also expected to earn berths to the Olympic golf event when the women’s Olympic Golf Rankings are released on June 29. Saso, who recently won the US Women’s Open, holds the no. 9 ranking while Pagdanganan is at no. 42. (JNP)
