Medellin holds off Tabuelan in overtime, wins 4th District crown

MEDELLIN held off a tough end game from district rival Tabuelan to escape with an 80-78 overtime win to bag the 4th District title in the Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament on Friday night, April 5, in Medellin, Cebu.

Fritz Saladaga, Luthek Gabriel Leonard and Gelmart Umpad connived for 61 points to power Medellin to the district crown in front of their home crowd.

Medellin scored nine points in overtime to get the two-point win after a 71-all deadlock in regulation.

Biencenido Español finished with 20 points, John Dave Arnado chipped in 16 and Redmark Moreno contributed 12 for Tabuelan side.

It was a close contest also in the 5th District as Danao City edged out Sogod, 82-78, for the district championship in Danao City.

Carl Vincent Molina and Ace Rondina poured in 15 points each, Justine Mondares canned in 12.

Meanwhile, Dumanjug clinched the 7th District crown after pulling off a closely-contested 90-87 triumph over Alegria. (RSC)
