CEBUANA marathoner Mary Joy Tabal was hit with a huge blow after two of her races abroad got canceled due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) outbreak.

The 30-year-old runner was supposed to join the Standard Chartered Marathon in Hongkong and the 2020 Tokyo Marathon to earn enough points for the Tokyo Olympics.

But things went south after the Covid-19 outbreak, forcing the organizers to cancel or reduce the number of participants on their events.

The chances of qualifying in the Olympics are getting slimmer for the Brgy. Guba native.

However, the 2016 Rio Olympian is not giving up on the Summer Games just yet.

Tabal said her team is looking for accredited races that can help improve her chances for the Summer Games, which is set on July 24 to Aug. 9, 2020, in Tokyo, Japan. (RSC)
