UST Tiger Cubs net Don Bosco Greywolves star

THE University of Santo Tomas is apparently not done with its recruitment spree as the Tiger Cubs snagged Don Bosco Greywolves star Vincent Raymund “Soysoy” Escobido.

The development, which was confirmed by Escobido’s father Vincent “Inting” Escobido, comes not long after UST got the commitment of the reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high school Most Valuable Player, LA Casinillo.

The elder Escobido shared that his 17-year-old son, who already stands 6-foot-2, was already on the radar of several basketball programs for quite some time now. However, they held off on making a decision as they tried to sharpen his skills even further.

But with the Cesafi’s 20th season already scrapped because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the elder Escobido felt that this was the right time for his talented son to make a move to the bigger stage and brighter lights of Manila and the UAAP.

“With the Cesafi season already canceled, there won’t be any more games here. So we felt it was the right time for Soysoy to make a move to Manila and play for UST,” said the elder Escobido.

Escobido mentioned that several schools had wanted to recruit his son but he believes that the opportunity to get a good education, both on and off the court, is something his son would definitely enjoy getting at UST.

Also getting recruited to join UST was Escobido’s teammate on Don Bosco, Nichole Cabañero. (JNP)
