VINCENT Escobido caught fire late, scoring 11 straight points to lead the Don Bosco Greywolves past the University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, 73-53, in the 2019 Cesafi high school basketball tournament on Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Cebu Coliseum.
With the Baby Warriors breathing down their necks, pulling to within four, 51-55, after a triple by Nathaniel Montecillo, the Greywolves went to Escobido who sparked the game-ending 18-3 run with three free-throws, a transition lay-up, a putback, another free-throw and finally, a three-point play off a hard drive to the rack to give Don Bosco a 15-point lead, 66-51, time down to just 2:25.
At that point, the Greywolves emptied their bench and finished off the Baby Warriors to send them reeling to their third loss in a row and drop to 1-3 for the season.
Don Bosco on the other hand, evened up their record at 2-2. Escobido ended up with 15 points, four rebounds, an assist and three steals. Jay Cabanero added 10 markers.
