A YEAR after the avian influenza ravaged chicken farmers in the Central Luzon, Department of Agriculture (DA) said Davao Region remains safe from the bird flu.

DA-Davao chief information officer Noel Provido said through a phone interview on Thursday, August 16, that the region is safe from any cases related to the influenza outbreak in Pampanga

“There are no reported cases of bird flu. And to prevent any outbreak, we are observing strict quarantine protocols and monitoring,” Povido said.

The Davao regional office of DA is currently making sure that chicken poultry farms both in the city and in the region are securing their farms from any avian diseases through constant monitoring of chickens’ health through vaccinations and making sure chicken farms have disinfecting baths to ensure any foreign diseases from infecting chickens.

On August 2017, the province of Pampanga was declared under the state of calamity and culled around 200,000 fowls to control the spread of the virus.
