Immune boosting drink against virus

Dr. Fritz Espedilla, MD

LET me dedicate this column for the help against our fight with Covid-19.

At this time, we need to boost our immune system to shrug off potential viruses that may come our way.

Here is a concoction that you can prepare at home to help us in our fight. This is from my friend, Dr. Felix Ayahao, who is also practicing Tropical and Infectious Medicine in Baguio. He had been using this concoction for 30 long years to his patients and has proven to be successful.

For a liter of boiled water, add about five leaves of peppermint (Actually, I just used the paminta leaves from the market) and one teaspoon of chili powder. Grate one piece of ginger about the size of 3-5cm x 3-5 cm and add them to your concoction. Then, add one half to one cup of calamansi juice to it. Add brown sugar or honey, according to your taste.

The cayenne in chili has the antiviral properties, while the peppermint boosts its antiviral action for 50 times more. The ginger has the anti-inflammatory properties, while calamansi gives you vitamin C as your antioxidant. Honey gives you not only low calories for sugar, which is good for diabetics, since it has a low glycemic index, but it also gives us more vitamins in these stressful times.

I remember as a kid, my mom didn't give me any multivitamins in the market. I only have a tablespoon of honey every day. And I am happy with that.

I hope this helps us all. Keep safe everyone. Don't forget to pray.

Good luck!

Dr. Fritz
