TOURISTS have another reason to visit Samal, a beach lovers’ haven in the southern part of Mindanao, to cool off this summer season. With pristine waters surrounding this 30,130-hectare island, one would not refuse the thrill of boating.

At the Visit Samal 2019 Summer Saya sa Isla, boating took center stage as the local government of Samal Island, together with Damosa Land, gathered boat enthusiasts, paddlers and experienced navigators using the very basic bigiw, a non-motorized fishing boat with colorfully decorated sails.

Bangkeros in the Bigiw Regatta, a speed contest, opened the day paddling their way through a one and a half-hour course from Limao to Kaputian, where Damosa Land’s entry arrived first to win the race. Members of the Davao Boat and Leisure Club followed after and sailed off from Caliclic to the same endpoint.

Representatives from Filinvest, Landco Pacific Corporation, Playa Azalea Village Homeowners Association, Inc., Samal Shores/Ulticon Builders, Inc., Davao Airfill, Davao Boat and Leisure Club and Ricardo R. Floirendo and Hilda Barlis literally breezed through their way in their powerboats. At Kaputian, beachgoers were treated to an exhibition race as four Dragon boat teams – Ricspeed, Pearl Farm Beach Resort, and Amateur Paddlers Philippines showcased their intense paddling experience in the scorching heat of the sun. Afterwards, a dip in the cool blue water gave refreshing relief to everyone though.

Clearly, Samal does not only have a slice of the sun, sand and the sea. The well-attended weekend event took boating to another level in this island city from what was once a source of livelihood to what is now appreciated as a hobby and leisure experience. The city was able to showcase not just the evolution of boats but the different activities that one can enjoy with this watercraft. This indicates that now must be the best time to test the waters to take boating lifestyle to the next level in Samal.

This will be one of the many events and activities that Damosa Land will continue to participate in, all geared towards helping promote tourism and investment on Samal Island, the site for one of Damosa Land’s soon to be launched mixed use projects. (PR)
