10yo boy dies due to dehydration after getting diarrhea

DAVAO City Health Office (CHO) said a 10-year-old boy died due to complications from severe dehydration..

Dr. Ashley Lopez, CHO Head, said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio that the male patient from Toril District was among the three severe diarrhea cases admitted to the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

“Mao ni siya ang isa sa mga na-admit sa ICU (intensive care unit), and unfortunately succumb to death yesterday morning [July 19] because of complications from severe dehydration (He’s one of the patients admitted to the ICU in SPMC on July 16. He succumbed yesterday because of complications from severe dehydration). It was reported also that the patient manifested with Ascites, niburot ang tiyan (he had a swollen stomach) and there was no urine output which is clearly an indication of an acute renal failure, so nag-shutdown iyahang kidney (his kidney shut downed), this patient was initially admitted last July 16,” Lopez said.

Lopez said that the City Government of Davao will assist the bereaved family as well as the victims of the diarrhea outbreak.

He said CHO will continue to closely monitor the situation and assure that the medical needs of the affected individuals are addressed accordingly.

As of July 20, cases due to the diarrhea outbreak have climbed to 147. Affected barangays have also increased to 19 with Barangay Alambre, Bankas Heights, Daliaon Plantation, Eden, Marapangi, Sirawan, and Baliok added to the list. KSD
