96-year-old woman hit by truck dies

A PRIME mover truck driver was detained at the Sta. Ana Police Station after hitting a 96-year-old woman while traversing along Kilometer 5, Buhangin, Davao City around 11:50 a.m. Monday, October 7.

The driver was identified as Arnel Magallanes Luayon, 36, a resident of Visayan Village, Tagum City.

He said he accidentally hit the victim, Leonora Tan Ybanez, a resident of Buhangin who succumbed to wounds in different parts of her body.

A viral video of the incident was taken by a netizen who uploaded it on social media. The video showed the old woman agonizing in pain.

Authorities urged the public to always make sure the elderly are being assisted when crossing the streets.

A few hours after the accident, the old woman was declared dead as confirmed by her grandchild.
