THE Department of Public Works and Highways backhoe accidentally hit water pipelines which caused Emergency water service interruption from October 2 to 3.

The interruption, according to the Davao City Water District (DCWD) spokesperson, Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, was caused by the emergency repair of transmission and and butterfly valve along Bago Aplaya, accidentally hit by the backhoe of DPWH contractor.

DCWD announced last Tuesday, October 2, that at 2:30 PM, there will be an emergency water service interruption on the entire areas served by Dumoy WSS Line 1.

The repair works was completed early in the morning of October 3, however, Duhaylungod said that elevated areas may still take more time for pressure build-up and line delivery.

“Turned-off facilities are already online and some affected areas particularly in Bangkal and Matina already have water,” Duhaylungsod said.

“If all goes well, water supply in other areas will recover in the morning but elevated like Shrine Hills and Langub and far areas such as downtown, Agdao, Obrero, among others, will recover the latest as DCWD' facilities need time for pressure build-up and line delivery for full recovery of operation,” she added.

Meanwhile, in the State of the City Addres (SOCA) of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, she mentioned the city’s main water supply will shift from groundwater to surface water to ensure long-term security of water supply through the Davao Bulk Water Supply Project (DBWSP).

“DCWD has always been very grateful for the strong support and confidence of the Davao City local government all these years,” Duhaylungsod said.

“We are very fortunate that the Mayor shares our commitment to ensure water resource sustainability to proactively respond to the water needs of the city as we develop more sources to expand our service coverage,” she added.
