Search for aspiring inventors, researchers

THE Department of Science and Technology in Davao Region (DOST-Davao) is calling out all aspiring inventors and future researchers to compete in the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (Rice) on October 28 to 30 at the SMX Convention Center, Lanang, Davao City.

DOST-Davao Senior Science Research Specialist Arnel Rodriguez announced on October 11 the call for entries for Rice, the major activity of the region in celebration of the Rational Science and Technology Week 2019 with the theme “Science for the People: Inventions and Innovations for Sustainable Development.

“Inventors, developers, programmers, coders, at kahit yung mga hobbyists na merong projects or potential inventions, utility models, pwede silang sumali dito,” Rodriguez said.

He said competitors may vie for five categories namely the Tuklas Award for the most outstanding invention, the Outstanding Utility Model, Outstanding Industrial Design, and Likha Award for the most outstanding research and development of technology, and the Sibol Award for the most creative research in high school and college levels.

The grand winner will get P50,000 cash and will qualify for the national invention contest next year.

Rodriguez said they are expecting 24 exhibitors and 40 participants for the contest.
