Davao, a booming tourism market

Reuel John F. Lumawag

A TOURISM leader said they have observed that in recent years, Dabawenyos have become more bullish in terms of travelling outside of the city and the country.

"As a travel agent, I can easily say that tourism in Davao City is growing as people have the money to purchase packages and people can afford to travel outside Davao and Philippines," Corazon Capitan, National Association of Independent Travel Agents (Naitas) Davao Chapter president, said at the sidelines of the opening of the Naitas Travel Fair and Trade Show at the Abreeza Mall, Davao City.

She said the reason for Dabawenyos being able to afford to travel outside of the city and the country is the lower airfares airlines are offering and the good tourism packages travel agents and tour operators are offering.

Capitan said, based on their observations, Hong Kong and Singapore are the top foreign destinations for Dabawenyos while Palawan is the top for domestic destinations.

Meanwhile, she said the Naitas Travel Fair and Trade Show, which will run until April 8, 2018, will be offering to Dabawenyos discounted airfares and tour packages.

Now on its 5th year, the evet will highlight ASean tour packages and local destinations that are being showcased by travel and tours operators.
