DAVAO City boxers Reymond Albupera and John Alvin Gonzales salvaged bronze medals in the recently-concluded PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup National Championships at Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex.

Albupera competed in the junior boys 50-kilogram division while Gonzales tested his mettle in 60 kgs.

Coach Librado Sagarino, Jr. said, “Pasalamat gihapon mi nga basi bronze lang, 3-2 desisyon split. Sayang kaya nuon to mag gold si Albupera. Bawi lang sa Batang Pinoy (We are still thakful that we got bronze, 3-2, split decision. It's unfortunate though that Albupera could have won the gold. We will just bounce back in Batang Pinoy Nationals).”

He also said that they plan to hold boxing clinics in districts to augment their pool of boxers.

“Aron makapili mi parehas sa kalibre ni Albupera para balik kusog ang Davao (So we can find strong boxers like Albupera and bring back the city's glory days in boxing),” Sagarino added.

He said they are still awaiting word from the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office on their trip to Baguio City for the Batang Pinoy National Championships considering that the games were moved to September 17 due to the coming typhoon.

The city's boxing team and the rest of the delegates were scheduled to leave today but Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio cancelled their trip for safety reasons.
