2nd batch of coaching certification draws 100 participants

THE second batch of the ongoing Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) National Sports Coaching Certification program has drawn some 100 participants at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

PSC-Philippine Sports Institute (PSI) Mindanao cluster head Ed Fernandez bared to SunStar Davao that delegates came from Department of Education (Deped)-Compostela Valley, Deped-Mati and Deped-Davao Oriental divisions as well as from different private schools and local government unit of Banaybanay.

“It has the same content as the first batch catered last year,” Fernandez said.

The level 1 course features Sports Philosophy and Principles of Coaching, Sports Ethics, Sport Physiology, Sport Psychology, Talent Identification, Sport Pedagogy, and Sport Specific Skills Training.

In a statement, PSI deputy director Marlon Malbog said the grassroots coaching course is a directive of PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez who wants coaches to be equipped to raise the level of competitiveness of grassroots athletes.

Professor Henry Daut said the first two days will be theoretical in nature while the three remaining days will be practical exams and sports specific training with national coaches.

The lecturers included Professor Josephine Reyes (sports physiology), Professor Robert Jurado (sports ethics), Dr. Katrina Trinidad (sports psychology) and Luis Serafin Cosep (sports pedagogy).
