Sarno tops 3rd Addu rapid meet

BILLY Joel Sarno clinched the title of the 3rd Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Rapid Individual Chess Tournament held Sunday, January 20, at the Addu Jacinto conference room.

Second-seeded Sarno earned 5.5 points in the six-round Swiss System format competition. He received a trophy and a cash prize of P1,200.

Jude Nathaniel Enoc, meanwhile, edged fellow five-pointers top-seeded Gino Angelo Asuncion and third-seeded Ralph Miguel Reyes via superior tiebreaks to place second. Enoc and Asuncion received P800 and P500, respectively.

Rounding up the top 10 were 4.5 scorers James Catayas, Ryan Gabriel Rasay and Michael Cuamag as well as four-pointers Deanjann Piloton, Caerel Shane Mantilla and Juan Ryu Bagonoc.

Mantilla won the best female award in the chessfest managed by Ariel Niño Aton.
