Davao quartet saves the day

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- The Amoguis siblings, Lora Micah and Liaa Margarette, along with Jodie Adrianne Tangtatco and Maiki Samantha Gonzaga saved the day for Davao City in the final day of Batang Pinoy 2019 National Championships at Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex here Wednesday, August 28.

The Davao quartet registered a total of two minutes and 3.23 seconds to annex the gold medal in girls 15-under 4x50-meter freestyle relay team event.

Iloilo City’s Jan Clarisse Arenal, Dee Vianne Catedrilla, Kristel Rhey Napallatan and Jean Cathryn Perez (2:05.00) copped the silver while Negros Occidental’s Ela Reign Buelos, Rianna Montelibano, Alexi Cabayaran and Zhen Azel Marapo (2:05.56) got the bronze.

Davao also hauled five silvers Wednesday through the efforts of Pietro Dominic Requiza (boys 12-under 100m backstroke), Juan Alessandro Suarez (boys 12-under 200m butterfly), Lia Margarette Amoguis (girls 12-under 200m butterfly) and Alissa Ysabelle Lazarraga (girls 13-15 200m butterfly), while the boys 15-under 4X50m freestyle relay team of Shem Bello, Suarez, Chuck Amparo and Matthieu Adrien Tao snatched a bronze.

Davao tankers will go home with a total of five golds (Liaa Margarette with two, Requiza and Lora Micah with one each and the girls 15-under also with one), nine silvers and five bronzes

Lia Margarette led the medal haul with three golds, two silvers and one bronze.

In an interview, she said, “I’m just happy Davao has some golds. My coach was nice enough to say that there’s always another time to improv more.”

She also said would exert all her efforts to improve in her next competition.

“I want to make my coach, family and friends proud. I hope that in next year’s Batang Pinoy I’ll have more wins and set new standards,” the younger Amoguis sister added.
