UNIT 6 swept the gold medals of the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet 2018 secondary volleyball competition held at the Davao City National High School (DCNHS) Multi-Purpose Hall last Friday, October 19.

Defending champion Unit 6 boys team, powered by Ateneo De Davao University (AdDU) players with recruits from University of the Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) and Assumption College of Davao (ACD), kept its title after a come-from-behind win over powerhouse Unit 1, 19-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-11, in the finals.

Unit 6 coach Dinri Yambao of AdDU had to shuffle his line up in the third set after two sets of major setbacks.

"Nag full time open spiker na si Dux (Yambao) from being a setter since doon sila mahina in the first two sets while gambling the second setter Sam Calanza to be the full time setter. Then the other middle, team captain Lourdz Magno change the position at the back. They maintained that up until the fifth set and hindi na naka pag adjust ang Unit 1," D'Artagnan Yambao, in a Facebook interview, said.

Dux Yambao was named the most valuable player (MVP) while Lourdz Magno received the best attacker and blocker awards.

John Samuel Calanza and Rysell Villarte were awarded as the best setter and libero, respectively.

Unit 6 will also be reinforced by skilled DCNHS players with the likes of Leo Aringo, Kayeanne Mekaelle Monares and Vincent Dimalanta to complete the Davao City volleyball team in the upcoming Davao Region Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet next year.

Unit 6 girls team, for its part, topped the distaff side by demolishing Unit 8, 25-19, 25-14, 25-19, in their gold medal match.

Unit 6, coached by JC Velasquez of AdDU, also advanced to the regional meet.
